24 Freightliner trucks ordered by DeKalb County
DeKalb County in Ga recently placed an order for 24 freightliner M2 112 Business Class CNG (compressed natural gas) trucks. County will be using these CNG trucks for maintenance and sanitation applications.
The DeKalb County is regarded as one of the greenest counties in the USA and these trucks will only improve the reputation further. The trucks will use methane process of gas-to-energy. The program was initially launched in the year 2011 and will convert land fill waste to the useable natural gas. Through conversion of waste to energy, the DeKalb County is planning to produce electricity that will run in 2,500 trucks and they also want to make natural gas that would be enough for powering 600 trucks.
For supporting program of gas-to-energy, DeKalb County will be constructing 2 fueling stations to enhance the infrastructure of natural gas for both the trucks and passenger cars.
Robert Gordon, the fleet service superintendent at fleet management division of DeKalb County said that they are taking the responsibility of environmental degradation very seriously and their green initiatives so far have made them pretty proud. Hence they decided to order some Freightliner trucks as their next step in making the planet greener.
Freightliner M2 112 CNG has Cummins Westport natural gas ISL G 8.9 liter engine inside. It features three way maintenance free catalyst, and there is no diesel requirement of particulate regeneration or filter, ISL G also lowers the overall operations cost.
